Tournament Formats
Knockout
The standard format.
You lose - you're history! Time to enter another one!
Tennis tournaments run this way.
Our regular ongoing tournaments are knockout.
Round-robin
Each player plays a number of opponents.
Like football or soccer leagues.
Opponents may be chosen at random, or by standings in the event
(Swiss).
You're guaranteed several matches, you get to play more opponents.
All matches use the doubling cube.
Standard international rules apply.
Bonus Pools
Tournaments range from free, up to $50. We deliberately restrict the dollar
amounts as our aim is really to have fun, while allowing expert players to strut
their stuff.
That's all you
really need to know! What follows is optional and can be safely ignored!
Some events offer a bonus pool for players who wish to play for higher stakes.
It's simple (is it?) Player pay extra, over and above the normal entry. These amounts are called the 'bonus pool'
which is separate from the regular entry fees. The bonus pool participant who finishes highest in the tournament
wins the money. This has absolutely no effect or relevance to the players who
choose not to participate in the bonus pool.
More information in the tournament guidelines.
Backgammon is played around the world for fun and for money.
Play is based on the internationally accepted rules of Backgammon.
Don't worry if you are unfamiliar with the doubling cube - we'll help!
